Alfred Henry Mayer

Alfred Henry Mayer (Al) passed away Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Spring Creek Manor in American Falls after a long illness.  Dad was born February 7, 1923 the third child of Henry &Johanna (Schweikert) Mayer in Pleasant Valley, Idaho.  He completed his schooling in Pleasant Valley and then went to work for various farmers in the Aberdeen area.  In 1944 he joined the Navy and spent the next two years in the Pacific.  On February 9, 1946 he married June Hoffmann in San Francisco, CA.  He was honorably discharged in May 1946.  Dad and Mom returned to Aberdeen, Idaho to make their home and eventually buying a 160 acre farm north of Aberdeen which was his pride.  Mom passed away in 1995 and Dad was never able to recover from her loss. 

            He is survived by a son Gary (Lynne) Mayer, Covington, WA; a daughter Kathy (Dave) Burrup, Aberdeen, ID; a granddaughter Korinda (Derek) Sprague, Tigard, OR; two step-grandsons, Les (Elvia) Jordan, Midland, TX and Chris (Jessica) Jordan, Tacoma, WA; one step-great-grandson, Corbin Jordan and another on the way.

            In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, two mothers, three brothers, (Theophil, Ted, and Otto), two sisters (Theresa & Helena).  He is also survived by three brothers (Emil, Bob & Art) and one sister (Viola).

            Graveside Services will be held at 1p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Aberdeen Cemetery, Aberdeen, Idaho with Military Honors by the American Legion post 59. 

            The family would like to thank the Spring Creek Manor, especially Lianna, Terri, & Joyce for the care given Dad the past 8 and a half years, and Alliance Hospice, especially Missy, Lisa, Eloise, Leticia, Peter, Danny, Larry & Stacey for the wonderful care and understanding the past 18 months.

            The family requests no flowers but if you wish a donation in Dad’s name may be made to the cancer or dementia foundations.
