Betty Jane Wilcox

Betty Jane Wilcox 89, of Aberdeen died peacefully in her home on August 28, 2014 following an extended illness. Her family has no doubt that she is grateful to be reunited the love of her life, Arden, and her family who preceded her in death. Betty is remembered by family and friends as an adoring wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a kind neighbor and was always willing to help someone in need.

She met her future husband Arden Wilcox, while she was only 14 and he was teaching her family while on a mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After Arden’s mission, he was drafted into the Army and was sent to Europe. While on leave, he went back to Louisiana and asked Betty to marry him. After WWII they moved to Idaho and proceeded to raise a family.

Betty was born on November 18, 1924 in Rayville, Louisiana to Albert Sidney and Emma Henrietta McPherson Beach. She was born into a family of many brothers and sisters and lived in a rural homestead, having cleared the land and planted it to cotton and sugar cane. Betty attended school in Rayville. She lived her early life playing and working peacefully with her siblings there on the farm. She had many jobs over the years including working at a Greyhound bus station, helping soldiers during WWII with the USO, and later as a lab technician at a food processing plant. She loved nature, quilting, reading, music and poetry. She was a wonderful grandmother and helped care for her many of her grandchildren. She always told her kids to find something beautiful every day.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, daughter Beverly Ann and son Henry Glade, her parents, many siblings and a grandson. She is survived by her children Nolan and Linda (Bower), Emma Sue Wilcox, Forrest and Bonnie Wilcox Boldt, Cindy Cordell, her brother Mose Beach and sister Fannie “Tinker” Farmer.

The family would like to thank the staff of Christian Shull and Michael Parson of Teton Cancer Center of Idaho Falls and Home Health and Hospice, especially Amy, Denise, McKensie , and Susan and also Joyce Weaver  for the beautiful harp music she presented at Betty’s home.
