Billie Barnard-Nelson

Mar 10, 1931 — May 4, 2026

Twin Falls

Billie Dolores Barnard Nelson, born on March 10, 1931, in Wendell, Idaho, lived a life full of love, dedication, and vibrant community spirit. As a young child, she moved with her family to American Falls, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1949. That same year, on June 4, Billie married William C. Barnard in American Falls, beginning a journey filled with family and service.

Billie and William started their family while living in Pocatello, where he attended Idaho State University. Their growing family later moved to Gooding, where their children Diane and Cliff were born. Throughout their early years, the family moved often as William pursued teaching positions, living in places such as Glens Ferry, Rockland, and Hansen. In Rockland, Billie contributed to the community by working part-time at the Rockland Merc, and in Hansen, she founded the high school girls’ drill team and coached the girls’ track team, inspiring many young athletes.

Committed to lifelong learning, Billie earned an associate degree in history from the College of Southern Idaho and also worked as a substitute teacher. In 1971, the family settled in Nampa, where Billie shared her love of music as a member of the musical group Majors and Miners and served as an office secretary until her retirement.

Though Billie's beloved husband William passed away in 1995, she found companionship once again when she married Dick Nelson. They made their home in Rockland until Dick’s passing. In her later years, Billie was lovingly cared for by her son Cliff until her peaceful passing on May 4, 2026.

Billie was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and two brothers, one daughter, and one stepson. She leaves behind her devoted son Dale and daughter-in-law Susan, her son Cliff, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She is also remembered by her stepson Ron, his wife Janet, ten step-grandchildren, and twenty-one step-great-grandchildren.

Billie Dolores Barnard Nelson’s life was a testament to love, learning, and community—qualities that will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
