Darlene Adkins

Velma Darlene Adkins passed away at home on November 6, 2023.  She was Born April 22, 1941 in Declo, Idaho to Joseph Earl Allen and Ormy Delores Divine Allen.  She was the fourth of seven children.  Joe, Jude, Marylyn, Richard, Darlene, Lee Etta and Lois.

Darlene grew up in Declo, Raft River and American Falls where she participated in many church and school activities. She loved spending time with her friends, and dancing.  She attended American Falls High School and graduated in 1959.  Darlene attended Idaho State University from 1984-1988.  In 1987 she was awarded the Delta Kappa Gamma Awards Scholarship and the Mary Vina Stevens Scholarship.  She graduated in 1988 with a Liberal Arts Degree in Elementary Education and a Minor in Library Science. 

Darlene married William Wesley Adkins on May 22, 1959 in the Idaho Falls Temple.  They had three sons together; Jack, Mac and Kirk.  They celebrated 53 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. 

Darlene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Darlene is well known for her  service and compassion for others.  She worked at the American Falls Middle School as the School Librarian for many years.    

She is survived by her children:  Jack (Kathy) Adkins of American Falls, Mac (Tammy) Adkins of Rigby, and Kirk (Robyn) Adkins of American Falls; A sibling Lois (Jeff) Fitzloff of Kuna, Idaho.  She has 12 grandchildren; Hannah, Bud, Bronco, Ashely, Ryan, Austin, Ashlee, Audrey, Dallen, Russell, Andrew, and Levi and 15 great-grandchildren:  Zaylie, Wylie, Victor, Odessa (Odie), Genevieve, Zarek, Brynlee, Shaylee, Brexon, Boone, Scotlin, Wesley, Loxley, Gunner, and Bowen.

She was preceded in death by her husband; Wes; brothers; Joe & Richard; sisters; Judy, Marilyn, and Lee Etta, a son; Claude Tenbears and a grandson; Daxton.

The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 111 Church Place in American Falls.  The funeral will start at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Neeley Cemetery.  Condolences may be shared at www.DavisRoseMortuary.com.
