David Allen Caspersen, born January 17, 1943, in Esterville, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home in American Falls, Idaho, on July 19, 2026, with his family by his side.

David’s life was one of steadfast faith, enduring commitment, and loving service—both to those closest to him and to the wider communities he touched over decades. The son of Niels and Frieda Caspersen, both of whom preceded him in death, David grew up with a strong sense of purpose and a passion for learning.

David's educational journey began at Valley City State Teachers College in Valley City, North Dakota, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in 1965. Fueled by a deep calling to serve, he continued his studies at Concordia Theological Seminary in Springfield, Illinois, receiving his Bachelor of Divinity in 1969. He later furthered his theological education with a Master of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1975.

In 1969, David was ordained as a Lutheran pastor in the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), marking the beginning of a remarkable career of spiritual leadership. His ministry commenced at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sawyer, North Dakota, and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kongsberg, North Dakota, where he served as pastor until 1972. He then shepherded the congregations at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelton, Nebraska, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lowell, Nebraska, through 1979. From 1979 to 1986, he guided Zion Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska, before accepting a call to Trinity Lutheran Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he faithfully ministered until his retirement in 2005.

Though formally retired, David remained a steadfast presence to those who sought his wisdom, compassion, and prayerful support for over twenty more years.

Beloved by his family, David’s legacy continues through his daughter, Ann Marie Caspersen; his son, Jonathan Caspersen; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Caspersen; and his cherished grandsons, Luke Caspersen and Jonah Caspersen. He is also remembered with love by his sister-in-law, Carmen Caspersen. David now joins in eternal rest his dear wife, Carol Caspersen, and his brothers, Paul, Phillip, Darrel, Larry, and Danny Caspersen.

David is remembered not only for his devotion to his faith and to the church, but also for the quiet strength, thoughtful counsel, and unwavering love he shared with family and friends. His enduring impact on countless individuals, congregations, and communities is a testament to a life humbly but fully lived in service to God and others.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
