Doris Nelson, a cherished member of the Aberdeen community, passed away on May 4, 2025, in Pocatello, Idaho. Born on January 15, 1930, in Aberdeen, Idaho, Doris lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to her family.
Throughout her career, Doris was known for her versatility and commitment. She worked a myriad of jobs, including as a bookkeeper for Christiansen Implement and as the editor of the Aberdeen Times. Her most lasting tenure was with Simplot Food Group, where she dedicated 20 years of her life until her retirement. Doris’s work ethic was a testament to her strong-willed nature and her ability to connect with those around her, showcasing her friendly demeanor and good sense of humor.
Doris was a proud graduate of Aberdeen High School, and her roots in the community profoundly shaped who she became. Her kindness and nurturing spirit were evident in her role as a mother, a job she carried out with perfection. She loved being around her boys, and her warmth created a home filled with joy and laughter. Known for her warm heart and boundless affection, she cherished showering her family, friends, and neighbors with kisses, leaving a legacy of love and tenderness.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Christensen and Ethel Christensen; her husbands, Dawn Monsen and Joseph Nelson; and nine siblings. She leaves behind a loving family who will honor her memory. Surviving are her sons Steve Monsen (Ginger), Larry Monsen (Carole), Doyle Monsen (Debbie), and Barry Nelson (DeDe). Doris also cherished her grandchildren: Tonja Williams (Ron), Christa Monsen, Jainee Nulph (Nick), and Garret Nelson (Tierney).
Her life will be celebrated at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Aberdeen Chapel on May 9, 2025. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM, followed by the funeral service starting at 10:00 AM with a luncheon to follow. She will be laid to rest at the Aberdeen Cemetery after the luncheon.
Doris Nelson's legacy of love, friendship, and humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but celebrated for the remarkable life she led.
