Evelyn Packer

October 10, 1929 — May 5, 2025

Pocatello

Evelyn Packer, a cherished member of the Pocatello community and later American Falls, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on October 10, 1929, in Pocatello, Idaho, she was a testament to unwavering love and dedication throughout her life.

Evelyn's early education took place in Pocatello, culminating with her graduation from Pocatello High School on May 21, 1947. Her pursuit of knowledge continued at Brigham Young University from 1948 to 1950. In 1951, she married her beloved James Packer, beginning a journey filled with shared joys and a deep commitment to each other. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1954, marking the start of a loving partnership that would serve as the cornerstone of their family life.

Evelyn's career took various forms, but her most significant role was undoubtedly that of a devoted wife and mother. In 1967, she began assisting her mother in selling Avon during her illness and continued this work after her mother's passing. However, it was the million little things that defined her life — from lovingly teaching her son Jimmy during his struggles with kidney problems to creating cherished holiday memories filled with warmth and laughter. Evelyn also imparted valuable life skills to her children, teaching them how to cook, clean, and quilt, ensuring that the essence of home was instilled in every generation.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her faith was central to her life. Evelyn's hobbies included knitting, crocheting, quilting, and embroidering; she often reminded those around her that "idle hands are the devil's workshop," reflecting her commitment to being engaged in meaningful activities. Known for her sweet demeanor and friendly nature, Evelyn had a remarkable ability to make anyone feel like a friend, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.

Evelyn is survived by her adoring children: Jimmy (Diane) Packer, Betty Oakes, Sue (Bruce) Wherry, Michael (Teresa) Packer, and Debby McCarthy. She was also blessed with 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom carries her legacy forward.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim Packer, her daughter Mary Aguirre, her parents Lamar and Louise Perkins, and her siblings William Perkins, Edwin Perkins, and Elaine Gibson. Evelyn is now reunited with Jim, whose love brought her immense joy throughout her life.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 650 Pocatello Ave, American Falls, ID 83211. Visitation will be held on May 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, interment will be at the Falls View Cemetery.
