Helena Hofmeister

Helena Neufeld Hofmeister, 86, of American Falls, ID, passed away on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Pocatello Care and Rehabilitation Center with family by her side.

Mom was born July 18, 1926 to Heinrich and Paulina Starke Neufeld in Hussar, Alberta, Canada. She married the love of her life, Gottfried William Hofmeister, on Sept. 8, 1947 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. To this union three children were born, Carl, Gilbert and Rhea. Dad and Mom settled in Pleasant Valley where the Hofmeister family had homesteaded in 1912. They farmed there for 27 years, 1947 to 1971. In 1971 they sold the farm in Pleasant Valley and bought the current family farm in lower Rockland Valley.

Mom was a farmwife and mother first. She was a Cub Scout leader when Carl was active and also a 4-H leader with the Pleasant Valley club for many years as a cooking leader. Mom’s and Dad’s grandchildren were everything to them. They enjoyed watching them participate in sports, school and church activities. Mom was an active member of St John’s Lutheran Church where she participated in many years of service to the church. Mom was a selfless person always thinking of everyone else. She was a people person and enjoyed being with family and friends.

She is also survived by her grandchildren Seth, Jessina (Max), Chad (Adrianna), Aaron (Angie), James (Jackie), Mattie (Joey), Gilbie (Mariah) and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Ruth), Red Deer, Alberta; Mary, Brooks, Alberta, and Jessie (Larry), Winnipeg, Manitoba; sisters-in-law, Martha, American Falls, and Elsie, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and many nieces and nephews.
