Julia Pauline Rowe

October 1, 1927 — April 30, 2025

Pocatello

Julia Pauline Rowe, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 30th, 2025, in Pocatello, Idaho, at the age of 97.

Born on October 1, 1927, in Blairsville, Pennsylvania, Julia was the eldest of three daughters born to Frank and Edith Bernard. She was preceded in death by her sisters Grace and Delores. She excelled in the classroom and on the basketball court. After graduating from Roberts-Wesley Junior College in North Chili, New York, in 1946, Julia moved to Los Angeles, California, and later settled in Blackfoot, Idaho, in 1950.

There, she worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Smedley. In 1951, she married Phillip Scott Chandler, and together they built a life on the farm and raised four sons: Phillip Scott Jr., David (Cheryl), Martin (Marlys), and Michael (Chipper). Julia cared for their nieces and nephews, who also spent a lot of time on the farm. In addition to her responsibilities at home, Julia worked at the Idaho State Experiment Station in Aberdeen, Idaho, where she was known for her strong work ethic and sharp mind.

Tragedy struck in 1972 when Julia lost her husband Phillip in an auto accident. Two years later, she found love again and married George E. Rowe in 1974. The couple made their home in Aberdeen where Julia loved and was loved both by her children and George’s. They spent many happy years traveling together. George preceded her in death in 2006.

Julia’s life was marked by resilience, optimism, grace, and devotion to family. She leaves behind her four sons, her nieces and nephews and George’s children, who she all cared for like her own, as well as a legacy of love carried on by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her strength, intelligence, her quick wit, and the deep care she gave to those around her.

Friends and family will have a graveside service to honor her memory on June 7th in Aberdeen, Idaho. Service time will be posted later.
