Kathie Dianne Strand

February 20, 1947 — November 23, 2022

American Falls,

Kathie Diane Strand passed away peacefully on November 23, 2022, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  Kathie was born on February 20, 1947, in Chico, California.  In 1957, her family moved to the Philippines at the Subic Bay Naval Station where her father was a teacher.  The family moved again in 1962 to Iwakuni, Japan.  In Japan, Kathie graduated from high school and her father was a principal at the military base school.  She later attended college in Paris, France and Keflavik, Iceland, following her father’s career move to principal of the NATO base school.  In 1965, she returned to California and earned her college degree and teaching credentials at Chico State University.  There she met her husband, Ben Strand.  In 1971, they moved to Burley, Idaho and in 1984, to American Falls, where she taught second grade at Hillcrest Elementary for 16 years.

Kathie was an active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church, and incredible spouse, and a wonderful mother.  She loved family activities (especially with her kids and grandchildren), gardening, camping, birdwatching, hiking, quilting, dancing, handyman jobs, cooking, photo scrapbooking, wood building projects, and raising farm animals.

She is survived by her husband Ben Strand; four children, Eric (Kelsi) Strand, Kristin (Nathan) Strong, Dianna (Alan) Chapman and Joshua Strand; and six grandchildren, Caleb, Taylor, Daniel, Noah, Brenli, and Bennett.  Kathie was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Jean Peck and brother Michael Peck.  Kathie moved to Edgewood Spring Creek Assisted Living, (American Falls) for two years and then Caring Hearts Assisted Living (Pocatello). A special thank you to Caring Hearts caregivers, Heritage Health and Hospice, and Dr. Lavonne Mills for their loving and excellent care of Kathie.

The funeral service will be held at 11am, Saturday, December 10, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 656 Tyhee Avenue, in American Falls.  In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Falls School District (Call 208-226-5173 Ext 105), St. John’s Lutheran Church, or Alzheimer Research.
