Norvin Lee Brown, 88, passed away March 8, 2026 at his home in Aberdeen, Idaho. He was born on March 17, 1937, in Salem, Oregon, to Oscar and Ruth Brown. At five years old, he put his faith in Jesus as his Savior. His family moved to Greenleaf, Idaho in 1951, where he attended Greenleaf Friends Academy and met Arlene Fivecoat. He always had a love of horses, and formed a relationship with Arlene through riding club in their high school years, as she enjoyed horses as well.
He also had a great interest in cars, and enjoyed customizing them.
Norv loved sports and was a natural at baseball, but lettered in all sports in high school. As an adult, he had a bowling team. He was also musical and played his trumpet as recently as February 2026.
He started working in the masonry business soon after high school. He and Arlene and family moved to Aberdeen in 1959. There he started his own business as a building contractor, designing custom homes, remodeling, creating beautiful stone fireplaces, and eventually building swimming pools. He was blessed to have skilled people to work with him, including Frank Hiebert, Tim Brown, and Homer Pankratz.
Norv enjoyed the outdoors, especially the Mennonite Church camp at Palisades where he was camp director for many years. He had a heart for that area and for the many young people who attended the camps.
Norv was selected to be on the HealthWest Medical Board, and served as Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce president.
To his family, he was known as the guy who could fix anything. He enjoyed working on projects at their childrens' homes.
He is survived by Arlene (his wife of 70 years) and all four of their children - Ronita, Susan (Cliff), Scott (Cyndi), and Steve (Roxane); 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; his sister Betty (Gene), brother Bob (Barbara); and numerous nieces and nephews. They remember Norv fondly.
A memorial service will be held in Norvin's honor at the First Mennonite Church in Aberdeen on March 21st at 11 am. A graveside service will be March 23rd at 11 am., in Greenleaf.
