Sandra Lee Young Bowman, 59, passed away on September 24, 2026, in American Falls, Idaho. She was born on May 2, 1967, in Pocatello, Idaho.

Sandra was a graduate of Rockland High School and later attended Rick’s College in Rexburg, Idaho. She worked as an administrative secretary at JRSE for 11 years. She was described as a strong woman with good values and morals, and those qualities were reflected in the way she lived her life and cared for the people around her.

She enjoyed many simple and meaningful pleasures. Sandra loved concerts, Harley rides, camping, and fishing. More than anything, she loved her grandchildren. One of her greatest joys and proudest accomplishments was seeing all three of her children graduate.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Mel Bowman; her son, Derek Vanderploeg, his wife Jaiden Vanderploeg and her daughters, Casandra Vanderploeg and Sophia Portillo. She is also survived by her sister, Teresa Workman, and her brother, Gregory Young. Her family continued to grow through those she welcomed with love, including Sophia’s husband, Simon Portillo, and their three children, Knoah, Phynix, and Amenah, as well as Casandra’s husband, Benny Aguilar, and his daughter, Aryia. She leaves behind a family who will remember her strength, her values, and the love she gave so freely.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Barbara Young.

Sandra will be remembered with love by all who knew her. Her life was marked by devotion to her family, pride in her children, and joy in the moments she shared with those she loved most.
