Obituary

Steven Isaak, a steadfast pillar of the American Falls community and a man whose life was a testament to devotion, to land, faith, family, and fellowship, passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2026, after a courageous battle with ALS. Born on December 20, 1949, in American Falls, Steve embodied the spirit of his hometown in every fiber of his being.

His journey began in the fertile fields of his birthplace, where he cultivated more than just crops; he nurtured a legacy. A lifelong farmer, Steve’s hands steered the seasons as he meticulously farmed potatoes, wheat, hay, alfalfa, sugar beets, and grain, an enduring connection to the earth that was as much a calling as it was a livelihood. His commitment extended beyond his fields; from 1976 to 2020, Steve served on the board of the Falls Irrigation District, dedicating over four decades to this vital community resource. For 34 of those years, from 1986 to 2020, he led the board as its president, steering with steady hands toward progress and sustainability.

Steve’s contributions were not limited to agriculture and water management. In February 2003, he became the founding soul of Powerhouse Christian Fellowship, a church born humbly in his garage that blossomed into a beacon atop a hill. The glowing cross that crowns the church, visible from across the American Falls Reservoir, stands as a radiant symbol of his vision and faith, continuing to guide and inspire the community he loved so dearly.

A man of profound spiritual commitment, Steve was an integral member of Gideons International and a longtime board member of the Assembly of God Church. His pastoral certification, earned in 2003, was one milestone among many in his tireless ministry. He served as an associate pastor in Burley, dedicated over two decades to teaching Sunday school, and answered a unique calling with compassion and courage by ministering to those in jail, a rare and sacred ministry that revealed the depth of his heart. His passion led him to travel on behalf of Light for the Lost, including serving on its national board.

Education was a foundation upon which Steve built his life and service. A proud graduate of American Falls High School in 1969, he furthered his studies at Idaho State University, completing the Agriculture Program that equipped him for a lifetime stewarding the land he cherished.

Steve’s personality was as rich and vibrant as the harvests he brought in year after year. A big jokester with a great sense of humor, he infused lightness and laughter wherever he went. Caring and loving, his hard work was matched only by his quiet strength and unwavering faith. Even-tempered and gentle, his greatest desire was that every person he encountered come to know Jesus, a love that poured from his heart in every interaction.

One of the most vivid memories of Steve is that he loved people, and food, in mass quantities. Family gatherings were his sanctuary and his stage, where he would dish up meals with a generosity that surpassed mere sustenance. Food was more than nourishment; it was his love language, spoken abundantly around tables surrounded by those he treasured.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Isaak; their children, Tabitha (Troy) Funk and Jon (Renee) Isaak; and a beautiful generation of grandchildren who carry his spirit forward: Andrew Funk, Ethan (Devan) Funk, Hunter (Beau) Pullin, Harrison (Emily) Funk, Mitchell (Gabby) Mayer, Peyton (Kayli) Mayer, Jakob Isaak, and Tathan Isaak; and six energetic, wonderful great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews whom Steve adored. He is survived by his siblings Marella (Steve) Bartlett, Laura (Gil) Judkins, and Rob Isaak, all of whom cherish his memory and influence. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Betty Isaak, whose legacy he honored throughout his life.

Steve Isaak’s passage from this world was marked by the very strength that defined him. Surpassing the prognosis given by his doctors, he demonstrated resilience and grace until the very end. His life’s work, on the land, in the church, and within the hearts of those who knew him, remains a glowing beacon, lighting a path for generations to come.

In remembering Steven Isaak, we celebrate a man whose laughter could lift spirits, whose hands shaped the earth and faith alike, and whose love was as boundless as the fields he tended. He has planted seeds of hope, of faith, of community that will continue to bloom eternally.

A viewing will be held Friday, April 17 from 5pm to 7pm at Davis-Rose Mortuary. On Saturday, there will be Steve's Legacy Service at 3pm at American Falls Community Church on Bennett Ave. A dinner will follow at Powerhouse Church.
