Walter Ray Siebel

Walter Ray, “Sonny” Siebel Jr. died suddenly on Sunday September 21, 2014 at the Power County Hospital.
Walt was born in American Falls, Idaho, October 10, 1937, an only child to Walter Siebel Sr. and Helen Writting Siebel. He was raised on the Mac Bowler Ranches on Lamb Weston Rd. where his folks worked. Walt graduated from American Falls High School in 1956 where he excelled in many sports all 4 years, especially football. Walt’s dad, Walter Siebel Sr. passed away a few years later at the age of 39 leaving Helen and only son Walt.
Walt was drafted in 1962 and served in the U.S. army in Germany. He also played football in Europe for his army team.  After being honorably discharged in 1967 Walt returned to the family farm in American Falls where he lived with and helped his mother until her passing in the early 90’s. Walt farmed several more years by himself and then sold his place to Koompin Farms.  Kenneth and Klaren and their families considered Walt as one of their own and Walt took care of the “Bowler Place” for them for about 16 years.
In his younger days Walt liked hunting, fishing, rodeos, horses and motorcycle racing. In his later years he enjoyed gardening, cooking and canning all kinds including winemaking. He especially loved sharing his bounty with family and friends. He brought many a smile with his delivery of goodies on a regular basis.  Food and fellowship were probably Walt’s most favorite past time and he enjoyed regular outings in the country with the Whitnah boys, frequently stopping in at the Rockland Café on the way out or back in from the ranch.
Walter continued to bring joy to the people living and working at the Power County Nursing Care Center for the last year and up until that last cup of coffee the Sunday morning of his passing. Walter is survived by his aunt, Annette Hoffer, a few cousins and good friend Edna Whitnah who adopted his dog and cat when Walter left his farmhouse home in 2013.
Walt will be remembered for his love of life and love of friends. He was a colorful character and a big tease to all who knew him. He had a big heart and a generous spirit, both of which will be greatly missed.  A graveside service with military rites will be held on Friday September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Falls View Cemetery with lunch in the AF City Park immediately following.  Condolences and memories may be shared at www.davisrosemortuary.com
